Arts

Arts can spur creative approaches to community cohesion, social change, and cognitive growth. We support opportunities to strengthen existing cultural arts organizations and emerging arts groups, with a focus on capital projects that enhance programming in underserved communities in Baltimore.

We also look for arts initiatives that:

  • Drive economic development
  • Help attract artists and support their ability to live and work in Baltimore
  • Stabilize and revitalize neighborhoods
  • Use the arts to improve academic achievement

Case Study: The Charles Theatre

Cinemas are critical to Baltimore City’s cultural life, the vibrancy of it arts infrastructure, and variety of entertainment offerings. The Charles Theatre assembled a redevelopment plan to add new screens and double the number of seats, offering the potential for better features and bigger audiences, increasing the profitability of the business, and adding vitality to the neighborhood surrounding the theater.
