In recent years, the center has seen steadily increasing demand for services. Franciscan Center staff report increasing numbers of newly unemployed clients requesting services, a reflection of the recession’s continuing toll. While striving to meet the increased demand, the center receives far more requests for assistance than it is able to meet with its limited resources. A new executive director was hired in May 2010, bringing new vision and leadership to the Franciscan Center, and a focus on increasing the center’s ability to meet the needs of Baltimore’s most vulnerable individuals and families. A $180,000 grant from The Abell Foundation will assist the center to meet the increasing demand for supportive services.
